Conditions That Cause Insomnia |

Certain health conditions, medications and commonly used substances can disrupt sleep:
- Conditions that cause chronic pain, such as headache and arthritis.
- Conditions associated with difficulty in breathing, such as asthma, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and sleep apnea.
- Anxiety, depression and other psychiatric disorders.
- Conditions that increase urinary frequency, such as enlarged prostate.
- Over working.
- Nicotine, caffeine and other stimulants.
- Abnormal function of thyroid gland.
- Acid reflux disorder.
- Restless legs syndrome.
- Prednisone and some steroids.
- Dementia.
- Certain medications and commonly used substances can disrupt sleep. These include:
- Some decongestants and medicines treating cold and alergies.
- Medicines used to treat heart conditions.
- Some asthma medications.
- Alcohol or other sedatives that wear off in the middle of the night.
